Throughout her life, Sandra Pereznieto has used her camera as a means of self-discovery, even before fully realizing it. After years dedicated to architectural photography in Mexico, she received a grant to pursue postgraduate studies at a prestigious university in Barcelona, where she has resided since 1999. Dividing her time between Barcelona and Mexico City, she continues to collaborate with renowned architects, international publishers, and magazines, capturing both public and private spaces while also developing personal projects.
At a certain point, she felt an urge to recover something she believed had been lost, though its nature remained unclear. Over the course of eight years, returning repeatedly to the same places deepened her photographic exploration. Eventually, she paused to reflect, seeking to understand what her images truly expressed beyond her initial intentions. This period of introspection led her to a deeper awareness of her artistic vision and its connection to the world.
Her work is driven by a pursuit of poetic simplicity, a quality that emerges when there is a profound internal resonance. She now recognizes that capturing genuine and meaningful moments depends on this deep connection. This ongoing interplay between intuition and understanding became the foundation for her latest exhibition, Vaivén.
Presented in 2024 at the iconic Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum, Vaivén explores the delicate interaction between light, shadow, architecture, and emotion. The exhibition stands out for its innovative use of photographic prints on transparent fabrics, which move with the wind, transforming with light and the presence of the viewer. Their shifting contours create new meanings, blurring the boundaries between image and space.
Through this intimate body of work, Pereznieto invites viewers into a contemplative experience where memory, chance, and perception intertwine. The exhibition’s title, meaning “ebb and flow,” reflects her creative process—one that oscillates between certainty and instinct. By layering images and transparencies, she opens a space for coincidence, connection, and the dissolution of limits, offering a shared moment of reflection and transformation.
