Melissa Ann Pinney is a Guggenheim Fellow whose studies of the social lives and emerging identities of American girls and women have received wide critical interest. Pinney’s photographs are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; Eastman Museum; J. Paul Getty Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Boston; Museum of Modern Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Whitney Museum of American Art and others. Pinney has had three books published: Regarding Emma (2003), Girl Ascending (2010), and TWO, with Ann Patchett (2015). Since 1984, she has taught photography at Columbia College, Chicago.
Pinney was awarded the 2021-22 Dammeyer Fellowship from Columbia College Chicago to continue her work in the Chicago Public Schools.
