fata morgana
by Louis Roth
Despite extreme restrictions of press freedom in Egypt, fata morgana provides an insight into the countries New Administrative Capital. Beyond the cities horizons it questions the construction of monumental structures that rulers have been striving to build for millennia to supposedly immortalize their power. Uninhabited cityscapes are complemented by allegoric portraits to create a visual language that blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality.

Photographed on three trips to the New Administrative Capital of Egypt between 2023 and 2024. Text by london based writer and researcher Mamdouh Abdelkhalek in German, English and Arabic Design by Leon Hofmann
