Martin Parr, the ever-prolific Magnum photographer, has seemingly documented everything from the exotic to the mundane over decades of activity. His pictures are often brimming with details and saturated color, always with an eye for irony and an acute sense of observation. You can recognize the Martin Parr “look” at first glance, and you know the longer you look at one of his photos, the more it will reveal, and it will probably make you smile.
So it’s no wonder that over the years, Parr has been tapped by many of the world’s most prominent designer brands — Vogue, Balenciaga, Gucci and others — to bring his distinctive, candid, street photography style to the world of fashion.
A fun, new book, Fashion Faux Parr presents this rarely seen work from over three decades, featuring editorial, commercial, advertorial, and street-style fashion photography.

As early as the 1990s, world-renowned brands were intrigued by Parr’s distinct approach to making images and wanted to utilize his wry sense of humor for their campaigns. In addition to the brilliantly staged productions, the book also shows Parr’s behind-the-scenes photographs from international fashion weeks and candid moments on the streets, comprising of 250 images in total.

There’s a bold energy that moves throughout the book, and an eagerness to discover what will meet your eye next as you turn the page. The title mirrors the sense of playfulness found in the images, and the entire collection feels like an exploration of photography itself as much as an analysis of fashion.
Martin Parr is a current juror for the LensCulture Street Photography Awards 2024. Want to get your work seen by this prominent photographer? Enter your best street photography today!
